The EBRD Know How Academy: About us

The EBRD's Know How Academy (KHA) was launched in May 2020 as a pilot to digitally reach a new segment of SMEs targeting individual employees with the emphasis on helping build up the resilience of the microenterprises. By February 2023, 20,700 unique registered users from over 30 countries had used the Know How Academy and accessed the business learning materials.

The eLearning packages are designed to cover mission-critical topics to support small enterprises by offering a mix of digitally available trainings/diagnostics/tools and case studies covering finance, financial management, crisis management, supply chains, client relations.

The learning materials are available in a range of languages including English, Russian, Arabic, Ukrainian, French, Uzbek, and Turkish. Certificates of achievement will be issued following module completion.

In addition to providing finance, the EBRD draws on the know-how of its network of international advisers and local consultants to help transform a wide range of businesses, looking at areas including strategy, marketing, operations, quality management, energy efficiency, financial management and beyond.

EBRD's Advice for Small Businesses (“ASB”) is a flagship programme that provides direct advice to thousands of SMEs every year and delivers hundreds of trainings to local consultants and the staff of SMEs.

The particular challenge faced by ASB was to deliver scalable products to address these issues at speed and targeting some of the smallest companies in the private sector, who remained off the EBRD’s radar screen. A new focus on digitally delivered products saw the introduction of the Know How Academy, an online learning management system targeting micro businesses with current and relevant learning materials for running a business.
